Assessing the Institutionalization of Community Engagement
Join Collaboratory staff at the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities’ 2023 Annual Conference as they share recent findings from current research efforts.
This session will share de-identified survey results from faculty, staff, and senior leaders at 20 institutions of higher education who assessed their campus’ institutionalization of community engagement utilizing Furco, Weerts, Burton, & Kent’s (2009) Assessment Rubric for Institutionalizing Community Engagement in Higher Education. In addition to the survey results, the presentation will also share key themes and takeaways from multiple focus group discussions held among participating institutions. Discussion data was collected from:
1. A larger cohort focus group discussion that included faculty, staff, and senior leaders of the 20 participating cohort campuses.
2. Individually facilitated focus group discussions with faculty, staff, and senior leaders at single campuses that are a part of the larger cohort.
To encourage the critical examination of the institutionalization of community engagement at other campuses, the presentation will also provide participants with resources, guidance, and suggestions so that they feel empowered to carry out similar conversations to assess the institutionalization of community engagement at their home campuses.
